Debutant Kyle Mayers’s unbeaten 210 and Nkrumah Bonner’s 86 helped West Indies overhaul a 395-run target to win the Chattogram Test against Bangladesh and take a 1-0 series lead on Sunday. Mayers became the 14th West Indies player to score a century on Test debut and played a pivotal role in his team’s come-from-behind victory on the final day in Chattogram. The visitors now have an unbeatable 1-0 lead in the 2-match series against the Bangla Tigers.
28-year-old Kyle Mayers, playing in his first Test, created several records enroute his double ton on the final day of the Test. The left-hander became only the 6th player to score a double hundred on Test debut.
Also, he now claims the record of highest runs in the fourth innings of the Test by a dubutant. Moreover, the Barbados-born has become only the second player to score a double hundred in a successful chase. His overall score of 250 runs (1st and 2nd innings combined) is the 4th highest match aggregate on Test debut. Further, Mayers is the first cricketer to score a 4th innings double ton in Asia.
The Test match also saw West Indies register 5th highest successful run chase in the history of Test cricket.
