Brazil forward Neymar confirmed that he wants to remain at Paris Saint-Germain and hopes his attacking partner Kylian Mbappe will also stay at the Ligue 1 champions.
Neymar had joined PSG after Ligue 1 giants bought out his Barcelona contract for 222 million Euros in 2017, making it the most expensive transfer in football history. Neymar has been repeatedly linked with a return to Barcelona but the prospects of such a move now appear remote as the Catalan giants battle with the economic impact of the Covid-19 crisis.
“I’m very happy today. Things have changed a lot, I can’t exactly explain why – if it’s just me, or something else has changed,” Neymar, whose contract expires in June 2022, told French television channel TF1.
Kylian Mbappe’s future has also been the subject of speculation around Parc des Princes, as he has only 18 months remaining on his contract in Paris. Mauricio Pochettino is keen to tie down the 22-year-old to a new long-term deal ahead of the summer transfer window.
“I have adapted. I feel calmer and I’m very happy here. I want to stay at PSG and I hope Kylian will stay too. Of course, that’s the wish of every PSG supporter… With Kylian, we have a relationship of brothers … We really like to play together.
“We want PSG to be a great team and I want to continue doing what I’ve done every day in Paris — play football and be happy. That’s the most important thing.”
Neymar scored twice from the penalty spot on Sunday as Mauricio Pochettino’s PSG crashed to an injury-time defeat to relegation-battling Lorient. PSG are third in Ligue 1, three points behind leaders Lille.
